Senior Associate Land Surveyor / Survey Project Manager
An established, multi-disciplinary consulting firm is seeking a senior-level Licensed Professional Land Surveyor to provide technical oversight, project leadership, and strategic direction for its growing surveying operations on Long Island. In this role, you will oversee a diverse portfolio of surveying assignments, serve as a key technical resource, and play a critical role in expanding the firm's presence throughout the New York market. The successful candidate will combine strong technical capabilities with business acumen, leadership experience, and a commitment to delivering exceptional client service.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical and managerial leadership for land surveying projects throughout Long Island and the New York metropolitan area.
- Direct project execution from initial planning through final deliverables, ensuring quality, budget, and schedule objectives are achieved.
- Lead, mentor, and support survey staff, including office personnel and field teams.
- Implement and maintain quality assurance procedures to ensure technical accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Serve as the Professional Land Surveyor responsible for reviewing, certifying, and sealing survey documents.
- Manage the preparation and review of boundary surveys, topographic surveys, construction stakeout services, and ALTA/NSPS surveys.
- Perform and oversee deed research, title review, easement interpretation, and boundary evaluations.
- Provide expert guidance on complex land surveying challenges and property-related matters.
- Coordinate with local agencies and municipalities to ensure compliance with permitting requirements and regulatory standards.
- Build and maintain relationships with developers, engineers, architects, contractors, and public-sector clients.
- Participate in proposal development, project scoping, budgeting, and contract negotiations.
- Support market expansion efforts by identifying new business opportunities and strengthening existing client partnerships.
- Collaborate with engineering and other technical teams to deliver integrated project solutions.
Qualifications
- New York State Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license required.
- New Jersey PLS registration is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in land surveying, including project management and team leadership responsibilities.
- Proven track record managing complex surveying assignments with minimal oversight.
- In-depth understanding of boundary surveying principles, land title matters, survey regulations, and construction layout practices.
- Strong working knowledge of local municipal requirements and development processes throughout Long Island and the New York region.
- Experience utilizing surveying and design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Carlson Survey, MicroStation, or similar platforms.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and client management skills.
- Demonstrated success in business development, client retention, and project acquisition.
