Position Overview:

An environmental consulting firm is seeking a Staff Environmental Scientist - Land Use, Siting & Routing to join its team in Richmond, VA. This role supports project management efforts in conducting routing and siting studies, securing local and environmental permits, and producing GIS mapping deliverables. The firm is employee-owned and has been recognized nationally as a top workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support environmental projects through technical writing, permit applications, and GIS deliverables.
  • Conduct alternative analysis using local and environmental data.
  • Prepare routing and siting documentation for infrastructure projects such as electric transmission, transportation, renewables, and oil & gas.
  • Collaborate with clients, agencies, and internal teams to develop environmental documents and technical studies.
  • Assist in proposal development, cost estimation, and strategic planning.
  • Contribute to business development efforts in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Planning, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Urban & Regional Planning, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience (consulting preferred).
  • Familiarity with local land use policies and environmental permitting at state and local levels.
  • Experience with routing & siting and related regulatory applications.
  • Strong writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, GPS, and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with both private and public-sector clients; business development experience is a plus.
