Project Surveyor - Industrial

A growing engineering consultancy is seeking a Project Surveyor (PLS) to support industrial and infrastructure projects across multiple market sectors. This role is well‑suited for a licensed surveyor who enjoys hands‑on project involvement, field leadership, and collaboration with engineering and construction teams. The position is based in Salt Lake City, with regular travel to active project sites.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare proposal scopes, schedules, deliverables, manhour estimates, and technical qualifications
  • Develop, implement, and maintain surveying workflows, operating procedures, and QA/QC standards
  • Lead, mentor, and train surveying, scanning, and field staff to ensure high‑quality, on‑schedule project execution
  • Perform a wide range of survey services including:
    • Topographic, boundary, construction, and as‑built surveys
    • Subsurface utility surveys and benchmarking
    • Post‑construction and record surveys
  • Provide construction staking and layout for sites, facilities, structures, roadways, grading, drainage features, rail alignments, and easements
  • Execute building control, laser scanning capture, and post‑processing activities
  • Support field validation and quality assurance using robotic total stations and GPS equipment
  • Plan and perform layout, set‑out, and back‑check tasks utilizing known backsights and multi‑point resections
  • Coordinate and oversee drone surveying and quantity/volume calculations
  • Assist with development of construction drawings and record drawings
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and CAD teams to address design changes and site conditions
  • Perform in‑process quality control of field activities and survey calculations
  • Prepare field notes, sketches, and documentation
  • Sign and seal surveys, maps, and survey‑related documents
  • Participate in client meetings and, when needed, support marketing or business development presentations

Required Qualifications

  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license
  • Strong proficiency with GPS, robotic total stations, and survey data collection workflows
  • Demonstrated experience with survey data processing and organization
  • Experience with LiDAR scanning equipment and software
  • Ability to import and manage survey data in AutoCAD
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and ArcGIS Pro
  • Basic understanding of GIS datasets, geodatabases, and map layers
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites as required
