Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Building Automation Controls Estimator to join our clients team in Richmond, Virginia. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for building automation and control systems in commercial, institutional, and industrial projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of HVAC systems, control strategies, and construction estimating practices.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for building automation systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering, sales, and project management teams to develop comprehensive proposals.
  • Perform take-offs of control devices, wiring, panels, and other system components.
  • Select appropriate control system components and develop bill of materials (BOM).
  • Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes.
  • Prepare detailed scope of work and pricing documents for submission to clients.
  • Assist in value engineering and alternative design solutions to meet budget constraints.
  • Maintain and update estimating tools, databases, and historical cost records.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in building automation systems (BAS), HVAC controls, or related estimating roles.
  • Familiarity with control systems such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Trane, or similar.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and control strategies.
  • Experience with estimating software (e.g., Accubid, Bluebeam, PlanSwift) is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • NICET certification or equivalent in Building Automation or Controls.
  • Experience with energy management systems and integration protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks).
  • Knowledge of local building codes and industry standards.
