Environmental Practice Leader

An established environmental consulting firm is seeking an Environmental Practice Leader to guide the strategic growth of its environmental practice in the Boston and broader New England market. This senior leadership role is ideal for a candidate with a deep background in Massachusetts environmental regulations, site remediation, and redevelopment, as well as a proven track record in business development and client acquisition. Candidates with an existing, steady book of business that can be leveraged in a new environment are strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead business development initiatives, including identifying new opportunities, expanding client relationships, and representing the firm at regional industry and regulatory events.
  • Serve as a technical and project lead on work involving Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) compliance, environmental due diligence, Brownfields redevelopment, Licensed Site Professional (LSP) oversight, and vapor intrusion assessment/mitigation.
  • Oversee multidisciplinary project teams, including junior staff, senior technical professionals, and project managers.
  • Lead communications with clients and regulatory agencies, including coordination with MassDEP, municipal departments, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and profitability across a range of project types, from urban redevelopment to coastal and climate-resilience initiatives.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and quality assurance for environmental investigations, remedial design, reporting, and risk characterization.
  • Mentor and develop staff across all levels, fostering a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and innovation.
  • Prepare, oversee, and review proposals, technical reports, regulatory submittals, and decision-making documents for both public- and private-sector clients.
  • Collaborate with internal practice groups and regional offices to deliver integrated environmental and engineering services.
  • Conduct travel to client sites, project locations, and meetings across Massachusetts and New England as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in environmental consulting, with extensive work in the Massachusetts market.
  • Licensed Site Professional (LSP) in Massachusetts required.
  • Strong working knowledge of MCP, RCRA, CERCLA, MEPA, TURA, and related federal/state environmental regulations.
  • Significant experience in environmental due diligence (ASTM), site investigation, remediation, risk assessment, and redevelopment.
  • Demonstrated success in client development, strategic planning, and expanding market presence.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in technical report writing, cost estimating, proposal development, and regulatory interpretation.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for regional travel.
