Locations: Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Sacramento, CA
Salary Range: $100,000 - $160,000 (commensurate with experience)

Overview

We are seeking a Solid Waste Engineer with a strong background in landfill engineering to support municipal and private-sector solid waste projects throughout California. This role will focus on landfill design, construction oversight, and landfill gas systems, with opportunities to work across a variety of active and closure-phase facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) services for landfill construction projects, including liner systems, grading, and associated infrastructure
  • Support the design, installation, and optimization of landfill gas (LFG) collection, conveyance, and control systems
  • Provide engineering support for landfill development, expansions, and modifications in compliance with state and local regulations
  • Oversee and coordinate field activities, including subcontractors and drilling operations
  • Conduct and/or oversee surface water, leachate, and environmental sampling (as applicable)
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations, and documentation to support permitting and construction activities
  • Coordinate with clients, regulators, and internal project teams throughout project lifecycles

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in solid waste engineering with a strong focus on landfill projects
  • Hands-on experience with landfill CQA, including construction oversight and documentation
  • Experience with landfill gas systems (design, capture, and conveyance)
  • Familiarity with drilling programs and environmental sampling (surface water, leachate, groundwater preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering discipline
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) license required; Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
