Aviation Superintendent
Summary:
- Leads all aspects of the project's safety culture and promotes an injury-free environment through personal actions and mentoring others. Investigates safety incidents and retrains staff as needed.
- Provides management of subcontractors and organizes overall job workflow.
- Manages and oversees staff, subcontractors, suppliers, and programs such as Safety, Quality, and EEO for a small project or a major portion of a larger project.
- Develops work plans for subcontractors and self-performed work.
- Coordinates and manages the care, custody, and control of the project site.
- Leads various meetings including daily stand-ups and weekly trade meetings.
- Attends and participates in progress and/or project OAC meetings.
- Creates, manages, and adjusts the project schedule as needed, in conjunction with the Project Manager.
- May assist in tracking and monitoring project budget and costs using cost reports and data from the project manager.
- Communicates key project information to owners, design teams, governing authorities, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- Maintains project filing and documentation systems, updates drawings, logs, diaries, and inspection notebooks.
- Approves and/or records unit cost information for weekly reports and completes daily reports, logs, and tracking reports.
- Evaluates progress on self-perform work and makes adjustments as needed.
- Manages material and equipment needs for the project.
- Assists in procurement and approval processes for materials and other costs.
- Supports selection of formwork, tools, and equipment necessary for self-perform operations.
- Oversees timecard approval process to ensure accurate reporting and proper cost coding.
- Ensures quality compliance through specifications, setting quality standards, in-house QA/QC, and external resources.
- Supports project closeout by supervising pre-punch activities and coordinating with the owner, architect, and governing authorities.
- Participates in project pre-planning, monitors progress, and adjusts plans as needed throughout the lifecycle.
- Partners with leadership to establish field staffing and identify schedule and cost impacts of project changes.
- Participates in negotiations with owners and architects regarding project changes.
- Assists in preparation and presentation for project review meetings, including monthly reviews.
- Participates in subcontractor and vendor buyout meetings.
- Understands and applies terms and conditions of owner and subcontractor contracts.
- Responsible for identifying and recruiting top talent.
- Promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion and ensures positive, proactive implementation throughout the organization.
SUPERINTENDENT
- Manages the largest, most complex stand-alone and/or multiple complex projects from initial planning to completion.
- Provides oversight to multiple projects and project teams.
- Leads and executes key strategic initiatives.
- Participates in development of training content and selection of subject matter experts.
- Effectively communicates leadership messages to multiple audiences internally and externally.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Advanced communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and scheduling software.
- Strong understanding of construction management fundamentals, project processes, and Lean principles.
- Advanced knowledge of trades, scopes of work, self-perform operations, and labor productivity.
- Ability to manage budgets, maximize profitability, and build strong relationships.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field (preferred).
- 12+ years of construction experience, including 10+ years in field supervision.
- Experience leading Lean principles on projects (preferred).
- Experience running large aviation projects (required).
Working Environment
- Valid and unrestricted driver's license required.
