Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and driven Construction Manager to lead the execution of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across Japan. This Tokyo-based role is pivotal in ensuring the successful delivery of projects from pre-construction through to commissioning and handover. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in renewable energy infrastructure, exceptional leadership skills, and a deep understanding of Japanese construction standards and regulatory frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution
- Develop comprehensive construction plans, schedules, and budgets aligned with project goals.
- Manage all phases of construction, from site preparation to final commissioning.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
Site & Contractor Management
- Oversee daily site operations, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards.
- Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, vendors, and on-site personnel.
- Conduct regular site inspections and progress reviews to identify and mitigate risks.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Collaborate closely with internal engineering, procurement, and project development teams.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for local authorities, utility companies, and external stakeholders.
- Facilitate clear communication between all parties to ensure alignment and timely decision-making.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all construction activities comply with Japanese building codes, safety regulations, and environmental laws.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including progress reports, inspection records, and handover packages.
- Lead final inspections and ensure smooth project handover to operations teams.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing construction for renewable energy projects (solar, wind, biomass, or BESS preferred).
- Proven track record of delivering complex infrastructure projects in Japan.
- Strong knowledge and experience about energy market
- Fluent Japanese language skills (spoken and written) are essential.
- Conversational English proficiency is preferred for internal communication and reporting.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with Japanese construction regulations, permitting processes, and safety standards.
