Data Center BASGraphics Engineer

Graphics Engineer, Building Automation Controls

About the Role

Our client is seeking a Senior Graphics Engineer to independently design, develop, and deliver advanced graphical user interfaces for Building Automation Systems (BAS), Building Management Systems (BMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS).

This position is responsible for complex graphics packages, technical quality, project coordination, and the development of reusable visualisation standards that improve consistency across projects.

The Senior Graphics Engineer will work closely with project managers, controls engineers, field technicians, commissioning teams, and clients to translate operational requirements into modern, intuitive, and high-performance graphics. The successful candidate will also provide technical guidance to junior team members and support troubleshooting, quality control, system expansion, and long-term customer service.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in building automation, HVAC systems, SCADA visualisation, graphical interface development, and the delivery of multiple concurrent projects across commercial and mission-critical environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently design, develop, test, and deliver sophisticated DDC and SCADA graphics within allocated project hours and established schedules.
  • Create visually appealing, dynamic, intuitive, and high-performance graphical interfaces that comply with client requirements and internal engineering standards.
  • Lead graphics development for complex commercial and mission-critical building automation projects.
  • Translate control sequences, points lists, mechanical plans, equipment submittals, and project specifications into accurate operator graphics.
  • Develop graphics for HVAC systems, central utility plants, electrical distribution systems, lighting systems, power monitoring, and other integrated building systems.
  • Coordinate with project managers, controls engineers, programmers, field technicians, and commissioning personnel to confirm system functionality and visualisation requirements.
  • Review project scope, identify missing information, and resolve graphics-related design questions before they affect project schedules.
  • Complete quality-control reviews of graphics packages, including navigation, point mapping, equipment status, alarms, trends, overrides, setpoints, and system summaries.
  • Identify and report technical, quality, scheduling, and scope-related risks to project managers and engineering leadership.
  • Provide technical problem-solving expertise for graphics performance, point integration, display logic, navigation, responsive layouts, and end-user usability.
  • Support graphics deployment, checkout, start-up, commissioning, and project closeout activities.
  • Troubleshoot graphics-related issues remotely and in coordination with field personnel.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining consistent quality, responsiveness, and delivery performance.
  • Maintain timely communication and follow-up with assigned project managers and project stakeholders.
  • Ensure graphics packages are delivered to job sites and commissioning teams in accordance with project schedules.
  • Maintain complete and accurate project documentation, revision histories, backups, and release packages.
  • Develop and maintain graphics libraries, templates, symbols, naming conventions, navigation standards, and reusable components.
  • Recommend improvements to graphics development processes, engineering workflows, documentation practices, and quality-control procedures.
  • Mentor junior graphics specialists and engineers by providing technical guidance, design feedback, troubleshooting assistance, and platform training.
  • Review the work of less-experienced team members and provide actionable feedback before project release.
  • Support system expansions, modernisation projects, software upgrades, and long-term customer service requirements.
  • Participate in internal technical reviews, lessons-learned discussions, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging visualisation technologies, industry standards, and user-interface design practices relevant to building automation and SCADA systems.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree in engineering technology, automation, controls, computer-aided design, graphic design, information technology, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Four or more years of experience working with BAS, BMS, EMS, DDC, SCADA, EPMS, or related control systems.
  • Three or more years of experience developing graphical interfaces for building automation or control-system applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently complete complex graphics projects from initial design through deployment and closeout.
  • Strong understanding of BAS, BMS, EMS, DDC, SCADA, and EPMS architecture and operational requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical equipment, central utility plants, electrical systems, and building automation principles.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical plans, control drawings, sequences of operation, points lists, equipment schedules, and technical submittals.
  • Proficiency with graphic design applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, or equivalent tools.
  • Experience developing graphics for browser-based or SCADA visualisation platforms.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Strong quality-control capabilities with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication with project teams and management.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to mentor and support less-experienced technical team members.
  • High levels of integrity, accountability, professionalism, and mature judgement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with platforms such as DGLogik, DGLux5 Designer, ECLYPSE Designer, ENVYSION Designer, or similar visualisation tools.
  • Experience with Ignition SCADA visualisation tools, including Vision or Perspective.
  • Experience with major DDC control systems and associated graphics development environments.
  • Experience with specialised graphics, illustration, or 3D facility-design tools.
  • Experience with PLC-based systems or integrated automation environments.
  • Experience with web-based graphics development, responsive design, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or related technologies.
  • Knowledge of 3D modelling and visualisation techniques for facilities and equipment layouts.
  • Experience supporting data centres, hospitals, laboratories, central utility plants, or other mission-critical facilities.
  • Experience with version-control systems, controlled-release processes, and collaborative development workflows.
  • Experience conducting peer reviews, quality audits, or technical training.
  • Knowledge of graphics and user-interface standards for alarms, trends, navigation, status indication, and operator workflows.
