Job Summary

As a Generator Technician IV, you will serve as a senior field service expert, providing advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on a wide variety of commercial and industrial generator systems. This role requires the ability to lead by example, support junior technicians, and independently manage complex service assignments with a high degree of technical expertise and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive troubleshooting and repairs on standby generators, transfer switches, and related equipment, including diesel, natural gas, and propane systems.
  • Conduct advanced electrical diagnostics involving controls, Isolation/Bypass ATSs, and ATS logic.
  • Perform complex field commissioning of new generator systems.
  • Commission generator systems and controls while ensuring compliance with company and industry standards.
  • Interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals accurately.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis on recurring system failures and implement long-term solutions.
  • Utilize digital and analog diagnostic tools effectively.
  • Document all work performed, including parts used, labor, and service outcomes.
  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding service work, recommendations, and follow-up actions.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA and company safety requirements.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to respond to emergency service needs.
  • Serve as a key escalation point for urgent service calls.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree in Diesel Technology, Electrical Technology, Power Generation Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of generator service experience, preferably supporting commercial and industrial systems.
  • Experience with multiple OEM platforms, including major generator and switchgear manufacturers.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel and natural gas engines, electrical power systems, controls, and single-phase/three-phase applications.
  • Strong understanding of NFPA 110, NFPA 70E, and OSHA standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in a variety of environmental conditions.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to perform all responsibilities associated with a Level III Generator Technician role.
  • EGSA Journeyman Certification preferred.
  • OEM training from major generator manufacturers preferred.
  • Familiarity with remote monitoring systems and network communications.
