High Travel Controls Integrator
Overview
We are seeking a Building Automation Controls Engineer to join a growing systems integrator delivering complex BAS projects across multiple sites. This is a high-travel role (~50%), focused on commissioning, integrating, and supporting DDC systems (Tridium Niagara & Distech Controls) within commercial and mission-critical environments.
This position is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys working on-site, solving technical challenges, and delivering fully integrated smart building systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on-site commissioning, start-up, and integration of BAS/DDC systems
- Program, configure, and optimise Tridium Niagara (N4/AX) front-end and controllers
- Integrate Distech and other third-party DDC systems via BACnet, Modbus, and other open protocols [lviassociates.com]
- Perform functional testing, troubleshooting, and diagnostics to ensure system performance
- Develop control logic, sequences of operation, and system graphics
- Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and clients to deliver projects on time
- Provide technical support, training, and system handover documentation
- Travel to project sites across the region (~50%) for installation, commissioning, and support
- Maintain detailed as-built documentation, commissioning reports, and system architecture
Core Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in Building Automation / Controls Engineering
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Tridium Niagara (N4/AX)
- Distech Controls
- Proven background in DDC system commissioning & integration
- Solid understanding of:
- HVAC systems and control strategies
- BAS protocols (BACnet, Modbus, etc.) [lviassociates.com]
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and sequences of operation
- Experience troubleshooting system performance and communication issues
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%
Preferred
- Niagara Certification (AX/N4)
- Experience working for a controls integrator or contractor
- Exposure to additional platforms (JCI Metasys, Siemens, Alerton, etc.)
- Knowledge of IP networking and system integration
