With a growing team in the Columbus area, the company is looking for an experienced HR professional who can serve as a trusted local resource for employees and managers while helping create a welcoming, well-organized workplace.
Position Summary:
Our client is seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to support its Columbus office and surrounding regional operations. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, this person will serve as the primary HR contact for the region and support talent acquisition, onboarding, employee relations, benefits, compliance, engagement, and policy administration.
This is a hands-on role with a broad mix of responsibilities. Alongside traditional HR duties, the position will help manage daily office operations and ensure employees have the support, information, and resources they need. The role does not currently have any direct reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a trusted HR resource for employees and managers across the region
- Support recruiting efforts by partnering with hiring managers and the corporate HR team
- Coordinate new-hire onboarding, including paperwork, office access, equipment, technology, and workspace setup
- Guide employees through benefit enrollment, eligibility, plan changes, and claim-related questions
- Assist with employee relations matters, workplace concerns, and conflict resolution
- Ensure company policies are understood and applied fairly and consistently
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and HR requirements
- Support EEO, affirmative action, and workplace inclusion initiatives
- Coordinate employee engagement activities, internal events, and regional communications
- Manage offboarding, including exit interviews and the return of company property
- Maintain accurate and confidential HR records and documentation
- Oversee office supplies, vendors, facility needs, and other daily office operations
- Help promote the company's employment brand through schools, industry groups, networking events, and community involvement
- Support wider HR initiatives, employee programs, and special projects led by the Director of Human Resources
- Help create a professional, positive, and team-oriented employee experience
Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of progressive human resources experience, ideally within construction or a related industry
- Experience supporting employee relations, recruiting, onboarding, benefits, compliance, and policy administration
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws and current HR practices
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
- PHR, SHRM-CP, or a similar HR certification is a plus
- Able to build credibility and positive working relationships with employees at every level
- Strong interpersonal, communication, customer service, and conflict resolution skills
- Professional and approachable, with the judgment to handle confidential or sensitive matters appropriately
- Highly organized and comfortable balancing several priorities and deadlines
- Proactive problem solver who can work independently while remaining connected to the wider HR team
- Experience coordinating employee events, onboarding activities, and office operations
- Proficient with Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams, with the ability to learn additional systems
- Willingness to travel periodically to support regional employees and project teams
