Position Overview

We are seeking an entrepreneurial Land Survey Practice Builder to establish, lead, and grow our survey practice with a focus on topographic, ALTA/NSPS, boundary, and utility surveying services. This leadership role is ideal for a licensed surveyor with strong industry relationships, technical expertise, and a proven ability to develop clients, build teams, and expand service offerings.

The Practice Builder will be responsible for market growth, client engagement, team development, and delivery oversight, while serving as a visible leader in the surveying community.


Key Responsibilities

Practice & Business Development

  • Build and grow a land surveying practice focused on:
    • Topographic surveys
    • ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys
    • Boundary surveys
    • Utility mapping and Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE)
  • Develop and execute regional growth strategies aligned with firm objectives.
  • Leverage existing relationships with:
    • Transportation firms
    • Developers
    • Municipalities, counties, and state agencies
    • Legal, title, and real estate stakeholders
  • Identify, pursue, and win new work, including on‑call contracts and repeat clients.
  • Lead proposal efforts, fee development, and client interviews.

Client & Market Leadership

  • Serve as the primary client contact for key survey clients and programs.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to public‑ and private‑sector clients.
  • Represent the firm in industry events, professional organizations, and client meetings.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with engineering, construction, and utility stakeholders.

Technical Oversight & Delivery

  • Provide technical oversight for survey projects to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with:
    • Florida statutes and administrative code
    • ALTA/NSPS standards
    • Client and agency requirements
  • Review and stamp surveys where required.
  • Support integration of survey data with engineering and GIS workflows.
  • Maintain and advance quality control procedures and best practices.

Team Leadership & Growth

  • Recruit, build, and mentor a high‑performing survey team.
  • Develop career paths and technical mentorship for survey staff.
  • Coordinate resources across offices and disciplines.
  • Foster a collaborative, safety‑conscious, and growth‑oriented culture.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Florida Professional Surveyor and Mapper (PSM) license required.
  • 10+ years of progressive land surveying experience.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering topographic, ALTA, boundary, and utility/SUE surveys.
  • Proven business development or practice growth experience.
  • Strong understanding of survey technologies (GPS, robotic total stations, LiDAR, GPR, etc.).
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and client‑facing skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Established client relationships in utilities, development, or public agencies.
  • Experience integrating survey services with engineering or construction projects.
  • Familiarity with county or municipal survey standards.
  • Experience leading multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Active involvement in professional organizations (e.g., FSMS).
