Overview

A long-standing, family-operated U.S. manufacturer and supplier of combustion and fuel oil systems is seeking a PLC Controls Engineer to support custom-designed automation projects. With over a century of industry expertise, this organization focuses on delivering high-quality, American-made solutions in combustion and fuel oil system technologies.

This role involves designing, programming, testing, and maintaining PLC-based control systems. The ideal candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams-including electrical, mechanical, software, and proposal engineers-to deliver reliable, integrated automation solutions that meet or exceed client expectations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop PLC and loop controller systems based on project specifications.

  • Program and troubleshoot PLCs and loop controllers from a variety of manufacturers, such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider Electric (Modicon), and in-house systems.

  • Develop and maintain Human Machine Interface (HMI) terminals for end-user control and interaction.

  • Document control system designs and maintain records of all system modifications.

  • Participate in system testing, commissioning, and startup activities.

  • Collaborate closely with project managers and proposal engineers to ensure timely and accurate project execution.

  • Apply knowledge of combustion control concepts including Burner Management Systems, Draft Control, Drum Level Control, and Fuel-Air Ratio Control.

  • Travel occasionally (approximately 10%) for meetings and on-site system support.


Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related field.

  • Hands-on experience programming PLCs using ladder logic, function block diagrams, and other control languages.

  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, BACnet, and Ethernet/IP.

  • Experience with HMI design and SCADA systems (e.g., Ignition SCADA, IFIX, Citect) is strongly preferred.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

  • Willingness to learn-training will be provided for the right candidate.
