A respected employee-owned consulting engineering firm is seeking a Regional Director to lead and grow its Bangor, Maine office. This is an opportunity for an experienced civil or environmental engineering leader to take ownership of operations, business development, project delivery, and team growth within an established Public Works practice serving communities throughout Maine and New England.

The team delivers a diverse portfolio of municipal infrastructure, water resources, environmental, stormwater, wastewater, and site development projects. With a strong backlog of work and a collaborative culture, this role offers the chance to influence the future direction of the office while remaining involved in meaningful projects that directly impact local communities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Bangor office, overseeing operations, project delivery, staff development, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with municipalities, state agencies, federal agencies, utility districts, and private-sector clients throughout Maine.
  • Drive business development activities, identify new opportunities, and expand the firm's market presence across the region.
  • Oversee the planning, design, permitting, and construction of public infrastructure, water resources, stormwater, wastewater, and environmental projects.
  • Manage project financial performance, including budgets, schedules, staffing, invoicing, and resource allocation.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams through conceptual, preliminary, and final design phases.
  • Review project deliverables and maintain high technical and quality standards across the office.
  • Prepare and review proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates, and regulatory permit applications.
  • Mentor and develop project managers, engineers, and technical staff to support long-term office growth.
  • Collaborate with leadership across New England to support strategic initiatives, recruitment, and operational planning.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource and trusted advisor for both clients and internal project teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licence required.
  • 15+ years of consulting engineering experience.
  • Proven experience leading teams, managing projects, and developing client relationships.
  • Strong background in public works, municipal infrastructure, water resources, stormwater, wastewater, environmental engineering, or site development projects.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, client management, and revenue growth.
  • Experience managing project financials, staffing plans, and operational performance.
  • Strong understanding of environmental permitting and regulatory processes.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and industry-standard engineering software.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, mentoring, and relationship-building skills.
