REMOTE - Transmission Line Engineer
About the Role
A well-established, nationally recognized engineering and consulting firm in the search for a mid- to senior-level Transmission Line Engineer. This role focuses on the planning and design of overhead and underground transmission systems supporting utility, infrastructure, and energy transition programs. The engineer will contribute to technically complex projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and utility clients in a fully remote environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform and lead engineering design for overhead and underground transmission lines (typically 69kV-500kV), including structure spotting, sag-tension analysis, and clearance verification
- Develop and review engineering calculations, design criteria, and construction deliverables
- Apply NESC, ASCE, and client-specific design standards to ensure safe, compliant, and constructible solutions
- Coordinate with civil, geotechnical, environmental, and right-of-way teams to resolve technical and permitting constraints
- Support project execution through design reviews, material specifications, and engineering support during construction
- Provide technical mentorship, review, and guidance to junior engineers and designers (senior level)
- Collaborate with project managers and clients to define scope, schedule, and technical approach
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
- 5+ years of transmission line engineering experience (mid-level); 8-10+ years for senior-level consideration
- Demonstrated experience with overhead transmission line design and analysis
- Proficiency with PLS-CADD and related tools (PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, or similar)
- Strong working knowledge of NESC and utility transmission standards
- Ability to manage work independently while contributing to distributed, project-based teams
Preferred Qualifications
- EIT or Professional Engineer (PE) license or active progress toward licensure
- Experience supporting utility clients, EPC partners, or large infrastructure programs
- Background in transmission line rebuilds, uprates, or greenfield projects
- Prior experience performing technical reviews or serving in a design leadership capacity
