Sales Engineer - Relay Settings/Power Systems

Position Overview

An established engineering and technology organization serving the electric utility industry is seeking a Sales Engineer to support growth across its software solutions and consulting services portfolio. This role blends technical expertise in power systems and protection engineering with customer engagement, business development support, and account management responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will serve as a technical resource throughout the customer lifecycle, assisting with solution demonstrations, technical evaluations, customer onboarding, implementation support, and ongoing account development.


Primary Responsibilities

Technical Sales Support (Approx. 50%)

  • Develop relationships with utility and energy-sector customers.
  • Assist with preparing proposals, scopes of work, quotations, and technical responses.
  • Support account planning and territory development initiatives.
  • Deliver product demonstrations and technical presentations to prospective clients.
  • Develop presentation materials, solution overviews, and technical documentation.
  • Tailor demonstrations and proof-of-concept activities to customer requirements.
  • Participate in site visits to understand operational and technical challenges.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to gain practical product and industry knowledge.

Customer Success & Implementation Support (Approx. 30%)

  • Serve as a primary contact for new and existing customers.
  • Facilitate onboarding and user training activities.
  • Support software deployment and integration efforts during the adoption phase.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and coordinate with subject matter experts as needed.
  • Create implementation guides, user resources, and best-practice documentation.
  • Collect customer feedback and communicate enhancement opportunities internally.

Business Development & Sales Operations (Approx. 20%)

  • Support achievement of business growth objectives through active customer engagement.
  • Conduct outreach activities via phone, email, virtual meetings, and industry networking.
  • Maintain customer and opportunity information within CRM systems.
  • Track follow-up activities, demonstrations, and sales pipeline progress.
  • Coordinate internally regarding customer requirements and solution feasibility.
  • Participate in industry conferences, technical forums, and trade events.
  • Assist with development of technical marketing content and competitive market analysis.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.

Technical Knowledge

  • Knowledge of protective relaying concepts and applications.
  • Familiarity with engineering software and database-driven applications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technical platforms and solutions.

Communication & Customer Engagement

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Comfortable conducting presentations, demonstrations, and customer meetings.
  • Professional customer-facing presence.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with utility and engineering stakeholders.

  • Experience with power system analysis software such as ASPEN, PSS®E, ETAP, SKM, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with utility reliability and compliance requirements.
  • Previous experience in technical sales, customer success, applications engineering, or technical support.
  • Technical writing and documentation experience.
  • Interest in pursuing professional engineering licensure.
