Senior Engineer - Water Resources
A well-established engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Civil / Site Engineer to join its growing infrastructure team. This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in the planning, design, and delivery of public sector civil engineering projects, with a strong focus on water, wastewater, utility, and site development infrastructure.
This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys a mix of technical design, project coordination, and mentoring junior staff. You'll have the opportunity to work on a variety of municipal and public infrastructure projects while leading the production of high-quality construction documents and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
Civil & Utility Infrastructure Design
- Prepare civil/site and utility design plans for public infrastructure projects.
- Design and support the delivery of:
- Water distribution systems
- Sanitary sewer collection systems
- Pump stations and associated facilities
- Utility relocations and coordination efforts
- Site grading, drainage, and stormwater management systems
- Develop plan sets, profiles, technical details, and construction drawings.
- Perform engineering calculations and contribute to technical specifications.
- Coordinate permitting requirements and ensure compliance with applicable agency and municipal standards.
Project Delivery & Client Coordination
- Support project managers in the successful execution of projects from planning through construction.
- Coordinate with internal engineering disciplines, subconsultants, utility providers, and agency stakeholders.
- Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and utility coordination discussions.
- Assist with site visits, field investigations, and construction-phase support when required.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Provide guidance and technical oversight to junior engineers and CAD designers.
- Review plans and deliverables for accuracy, quality, and adherence to project standards.
- Mentor team members and support their professional development.
- Assist with project planning, resource allocation, and delegation of design tasks.
Technical Production
- Independently prepare complete construction document packages, including:
- Existing conditions and base mapping
- Utility plans and profiles
- Grading and drainage plans
- Stormwater management designs
- Erosion and sediment control plans
- Construction details and technical notes
- Support quality assurance and quality control processes.
- Maintain organized project documentation and design files.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of experience in civil/site design and utility infrastructure projects.
- Strong background delivering public sector projects, particularly water and wastewater infrastructure.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Experience preparing construction plans independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience.
- Strong understanding of civil engineering design standards, permitting requirements, and project delivery processes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
Preferred
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain licensure.
- Experience with MicroStation.
- Background working with municipalities, counties, utility authorities, or state agencies.
- Familiarity with transportation and municipal design standards and agency review processes.
- Experience providing construction administration support, including RFIs, submittals, and contractor coordination.
