Senior Field Technician
Our client is a well-established employee-owned engineering consulting firm seeking a Senior Field Technician to join their growing team in the Kansas City area. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced construction materials testing and special inspections professional looking to take on more responsibility, mentor junior staff, and work on a diverse range of commercial, infrastructure, and development projects.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Senior Field Technician, you'll play a critical role in ensuring construction quality and compliance through field testing, inspections, documentation, and client interaction.
Construction Materials Testing
- Perform field testing of soils, concrete, asphalt, aggregates, masonry, grout, and other construction materials
- Conduct concrete sampling, slump, air content, temperature, unit weight, and cylinder testing
- Perform nuclear density testing and moisture-density evaluations
- Observe proof rolls and evaluate subgrade and structural fill conditions
- Monitor placement and compaction activities
- Prepare accurate testing documentation and field reports
Special Inspections
- Perform special inspections in accordance with IBC requirements
- Inspect reinforcing steel, concrete placements, masonry construction, and structural components
- Observe foundations, drilled piers, retaining walls, paving, slabs, and grade beams
- Verify compliance with project plans and specifications
- Communicate deficiencies and field observations to project teams
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare detailed daily field reports
- Document construction activities through photographs and written observations
- Track and report testing results and inspection findings
- Maintain electronic project records and documentation
Client & Team Interaction
- Serve as the on-site representative for testing and inspection services
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, project managers, and owners
- Provide technical guidance and support during construction activities
- Mentor and assist junior technicians in the field
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Significant experience in Construction Materials Testing (CMT), special inspections, or a related construction field
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
- Strong technical reporting and communication skills
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to work outdoors and lift up to 60 lbs
Preferred
- ACI certifications
- ICC certifications
- Nuclear Density Gauge certification
- Additional industry certifications related to testing and inspections
- Experience mentoring or training junior technicians
