Senior Water/Wastewater & Design Engineer

  • Approximately 12 or more years of progressive experience in water and wastewater engineering
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • Demonstrated technical depth in water, wastewater, and reuse systems, including both physical and chemical treatment methods
  • Proven experience delivering water and wastewater infrastructure from early planning through final design and construction support
  • Strong record of producing engineering calculations, design criteria, technical memoranda, and regulatory or client facing deliverables
  • Experience advancing drawing packages through multiple design milestones, including coordination and markup of drafting work
  • Hands on involvement with construction phase services for water, wastewater, or reclaimed water facilities
  • Ability to complete process and hydraulic analyses for treatment facilities, develop capital cost estimates, and prepare detailed process diagrams, layouts, and P&IDs
  • Working knowledge of instrumentation, controls, and automation systems commonly used in utility treatment facilities
  • Comfortable reviewing and interpreting plans, specifications, technical reports, and related engineering documentation
  • Exposure to treatment plant operations, pilot testing, performance monitoring, data analysis, and reporting
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to contribute across multiple concurrent projects
  • Self directed, organized, and capable of prioritizing workload while exercising sound engineering judgment
  • Clear communicator with a practical, solutions oriented approach to problem solving

Bonus Experience

  • Prior experience in a consulting or professional services environment
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with civil, mechanical, electrical, and process engineering disciplines
  • Experience with advanced or specialized treatment technologies such as membranes, UV, or similar systems
  • Familiarity with permitting requirements and regulatory frameworks governing water, wastewater, and reuse projects in California and throughout the US
  • Experience supporting system startup, commissioning, and long term operations planning
  • Background in hydraulic modeling of both gravity and pressurized pipeline systems
  • Experience designing pump stations or related conveyance infrastructure
  • Involvement in developing planning level and detailed cost estimates for utility infrastructure
  • Working knowledge of common industry design and modeling platforms such as Civil 3D, SewerCAD, PCSWMM, or similar tools
  • Familiarity with treatment process modeling software used to evaluate biological or physical treatment performance
  • Professional Engineer license strongly preferred
  • Additional credentials related to sustainability, resiliency, or infrastructure performance viewed favorably

Duties

  • Lead development of high quality engineering solutions across planning, evaluation, design, permitting, construction support, and operational planning
  • Prepare, review, and oversee engineering calculations, design criteria, and technical documentation
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to deliver coordinated, multidisciplinary solutions
  • Apply quality assurance and quality control practices consistently throughout all project stages
  • Assign, oversee, and guide the work of design staff to meet technical and schedule objectives
  • Support team growth through mentoring, coaching, and performance feedback
  • Introduce practical improvements to design approaches, workflows, and technical standards
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable local, state, and federal requirements
  • Serve as a key technical liaison between clients and project teams, communicating clearly and professionally
  • Operate independently with limited supervision while maintaining accountability for technical decisions
  • Uphold professional standards of care through thoughtful, defensible engineering judgment
