(Senior) Water/Wastewater Engineer
Our client is seeking a Senior Water/Wastewater Engineer to join a growing team delivering major water and wastewater infrastructure projects throughout the Washington DC region. This is an excellent opportunity for a licensed Professional Engineer with 5-20 years of experience who is looking to work on technically challenging projects while helping support the continued growth of a highly successful water-focused engineering practice.
The Arlington office currently supports several high-profile programmes with DC Water, including programme management and Pure Water DC initiatives. With a strong backlog and continued investment in the region, the team is planning for significant expansion over the next several years and is seeking experienced engineers who can help deliver projects while mentoring junior staff.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead and support the planning, design, and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects
- Prepare engineering reports, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical calculations
- Deliver pipeline rehabilitation and condition assessment projects
- Design and rehabilitate large-diameter conveyance systems
- Support pump station planning, design, and rehabilitation projects
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams
- Provide construction-phase engineering support
- Mentor junior engineers and support the development of emerging professionals
- Serve as a technical resource and trusted advisor to municipal utility clients
Desired Technical Experience
- Water and wastewater conveyance systems
- Large-diameter pipeline projects, ideally 36-inch to 72-inch systems
- Condition assessments and rehabilitation design
- Sewer, force main, and transmission main infrastructure
- Pump station design and rehabilitation
- Smaller to mid-sized pump stations (approximately 2-15 MGD preferred)
- Municipal water and wastewater capital improvement programmes
- Design, permitting, and construction support services
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering discipline
- Professional Engineer (PE) licence required
- 5-20 years of relevant water and wastewater engineering experience
- Experience managing and delivering municipal infrastructure projects
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with clients and project teams
- Previous task leadership, project management, or mentoring experience is highly desirable
