Structural Staff Engineer
Structural Staff Engineer
Tacoma, WA
Not every structural engineering role is built around standards, templates, and staying in your lane.
This opportunity is geared toward engineers who enjoy the technical side of the profession but also appreciate the creative side of design. You'll work alongside a highly collaborative team that believes strong engineering and great architecture should complement each other. The environment is fast-paced, hands-on, and intentionally less corporate than the typical consulting firm.
If you're someone who enjoys solving complex problems, taking ownership of projects, contributing ideas, and working directly with architects, contractors, and clients, this could be an excellent fit.
What You'll Do
- Contribute to the structural design of a diverse range of building projects from concept through construction
- Perform analysis and design for wood, steel, concrete, and other structural systems
- Develop structural calculations, construction documents, and technical deliverables
- Utilize ETABS and other analysis software for seismic modeling and structural evaluation
- Coordinate directly with architects, contractors, owners, and multidisciplinary design teams
- Support construction administration efforts and respond to field questions throughout project delivery
- Participate in design discussions and provide creative solutions to challenging structural problems
- Take increasing ownership of project responsibilities as experience grows
What We're Looking For
- 4+ years of structural engineering experience, ideally within a consulting environment
- Strong background in wood-frame design
- Experience with ETABS and seismic analysis is highly preferred
- PE license preferred, but not required
- Candidates actively pursuing licensure are encouraged to apply
- Construction experience or practical field knowledge is a major plus
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Self-starter mentality with a desire to take ownership of projects and professional growth
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
- Design-focused culture that values creativity as much as technical excellence
- Opportunity to work on architecturally significant and visually impactful projects
- Exposure to a wide variety of project types rather than being siloed into one market sector
- Direct access to experienced leadership and mentorship
- A collaborative environment where ideas are encouraged regardless of title
- Less bureaucracy, more influence
- Genuine opportunity for long-term growth and career development
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys wood design, seismic challenges, thoughtful architecture, and working with a team that approaches structural engineering as both a technical discipline and a creative craft.
