Survey Director

A growing, multidisciplinary consulting firm is looking to bring on a Survey Director to lead its surveying group in South Florida. This is a high-impact role with both operational and strategic responsibility, ideal for someone who wants to step in, take ownership, and shape the future of an established practice. This person will be leading an existing survey practice, and helping to manage and grow their active client base.

The firm:

~1,500 employees nationally, and great relationships with clients in South Florida, this firm primarily works with municipal clients through long-standing, continuous service contracts. Most projects are tied to public infrastructure; particularly roadway and right-of-way improvement. There is collaboration across engineering, landscape architecture, and surveying teams.

Based in Fort Lauderdale, the team operates in a highly collaborative environment with strong internal support. There are multiple survey crews in the field on a daily basis, backed by dedicated coordinators and drafters who handle processing and deliverables. The surveying group works closely with internal project teams, with less emphasis on private development and more focus on public-sector work such as design surveys, municipal program support, and development review.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the surveying group as a business unit, with responsibility for overall performance, growth, and long-term direction
  • Drive expansion within the municipal market, building on existing relationships while identifying new opportunities
  • Set the vision for the team and align it with broader company goals
  • Oversee department operations, including budgeting, forecasting, utilization, and profitability
  • Act as a senior point of contact for key municipal clients, helping to maintain and grow long-term partnerships
  • Build and develop a strong team, with a focus on leadership growth, mentorship, and succession planning
  • Partner closely with engineering and other internal groups to support multidisciplinary project delivery
  • Establish clear processes, metrics, and expectations to improve efficiency and accountability
  • Encourage innovation and continuous improvement, particularly around technology and workflow
  • Work alongside senior leadership on broader strategy and growth initiatives

Technical Expertise

  • Boundary and topographic surveying
  • Platting and subdivision design
  • Right-of-way and transportation-related surveys
  • Construction layout and as-built surveys
  • ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys
  • Legal descriptions and easement preparation
  • Familiarity with modern survey technologies, including GPS, robotic total stations, and laser scanning

Qualifications

  • Florida Professional Surveyor and Mapper (PSM) license required
  • 15+ years of experience, including leadership or management responsibilities
  • Experience leading teams and overseeing operations within a surveying practice
  • Strong understanding of municipal and public-sector projects
  • Comfortable working across disciplines in a collaborative environment
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and standard office tools
  • Strong communication skills and client-facing experience
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and keep projects moving forward

Compensation & Benefits

Salary for this role will be $170,000,180,000 base, along with up to a 10% bonus, fuel card, and a monthly vehicle stipend. There is a full benefits program, including health coverage, retirement options, paid time off, and ongoing professional development opportunities.
