Position: Senior Project Manager - California Offices
Location Options: Bay Area, Sacramento, Fresno, Los Angeles, Orange County, Inland Empire, San Diego
We're searching for a seasoned civil engineer to take on a leadership role in managing transportation design projects, with a focus on roadway/highway infrastructure. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys guiding a team, building client trust, and overseeing projects from planning through construction.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll lead roadway design efforts, working closely with internal teams, clients, and public agencies. A big part of your job will involve shaping junior talent, ensuring technical accuracy, and maintaining client satisfaction throughout each project phase.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Project & Technical Leadership
Lead the design and delivery of roadway projects following California guidelines
Review plans and documents to confirm compliance with applicable standards
Stay on top of project schedules, budgets, and quality control
Oversee the work of engineers, technicians, and interns, offering feedback and direction
Travel as necessary for meetings, site visits, and client presentations
Client Interaction
Act as a liaison with clients for assigned projects
Offer technical insight to help clients understand options and make informed decisions
Develop and maintain long-term relationships through reliable delivery and clear communication
Team Collaboration
Support and guide less experienced engineers to develop both technical and professional skills
Coordinate across teams and office locations to tap into broader expertise
Contribute to internal reviews, proposals, and contract updates as needed
Communication & Management
Ensure team efforts align with project goals and client expectations
Clearly communicate technical information and project updates to both internal and external stakeholders
Help develop and deliver internal training sessions as needed
What We're Looking For
Must-Haves:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in California
10+ years of experience in roadway or transportation design
Familiarity with MicroStation, Open-Roads, Civil 3D tools
Strong grasp of California design procedures and standards
Comfortable managing teams and multiple active projects
Confident communicator, both written and verbal
Willingness to travel occasionally for project needs
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
Detail-focused, with the ability to make sound engineering decisions under pressure
