Base Salary Range: $130k - $170k
My client is a nationally recognized engineering consulting firm with a strong reputation for delivering some of the most complex and impactful water infrastructure projects across the United States. With decades of experience serving municipalities, utilities, and public-sector clients, they are known for their technical excellence, collaborative culture, and commitment to developing innovative solutions that improve public health and environmental sustainability.
As part of continued growth within their Drinking Water Practice, they are seeking a Water Treatment Professional Engineer to lead the planning, design, and delivery of drinking water treatment projects. This is an opportunity to work alongside industry-leading experts on critical infrastructure programs while helping utilities navigate emerging treatment challenges, regulatory requirements, and long-term water quality goals.
Responsibilities
Lead the planning, design, and delivery of drinking water treatment projects from concept through construction.
Develop technical solutions for conventional and advanced treatment processes, including filtration, disinfection, membrane systems, PFAS treatment, and emerging contaminant mitigation.
Prepare and review engineering reports, design calculations, plans, specifications, and technical memoranda.
Support treatment plant expansions, upgrades, rehabilitation projects, and greenfield facility developments.
Serve as a technical leader during project pursuits, presentations, workshops, and client meetings.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including process, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and SCADA professionals.
Manage project schedules, budgets, scope, and quality control processes.
Support construction-phase services including design reviews, contractor coordination, RFIs, and site visits.
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership to project teams.
Build and maintain strong relationships with municipal clients and key project stakeholders.
Contribute to business development efforts, proposal preparation, and strategic growth initiatives within the water practice.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or related Engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- 8+ years of experience in drinking water treatment engineering.
- Demonstrated experience designing and delivering municipal water treatment facilities.
- Strong understanding of drinking water regulations, treatment processes, and utility infrastructure systems.
- Experience managing projects and coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating within a high-performing team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
- Experience with advanced treatment technologies, including PFAS treatment, membrane filtration, GAC, ion exchange, and other emerging contaminant solutions.
- Experience serving as a Project Manager, Technical Lead, or Client Service Manager on municipal water projects.
- Familiarity with Design-Build or Progressive Design-Build project delivery methods.
- Established relationships within the municipal water sector.
- Active participation in industry organizations such as AWWA, WEF, or regional water associations.
