Compensation
We are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation and remain committed to pay transparency. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $124,960 - $165,572. Individual pay will vary depending on factors such as performance, knowledge, job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for our annual incentive plan, subject to eligibility requirements.
Staff Generators Engineer
Are you passionate about electrical and mechanical laboratory environments? We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our lab team as a Staff Generators Engineer, playing a key role in ongoing innovation and technical support.
The Staff Generators Engineer leads medium‑ and large‑scale projects that enhance laboratory capabilities related to testing switchgear products, while ensuring proper maintenance of lab facilities and processes. Responsibilities include designing, simulating, and troubleshooting lab equipment and processes-especially high‑power generators and control systems. The role also involves cross‑functional collaboration, development of testing methods, equipment design, data analysis, and providing insights that support product development and quality improvement. Additionally, this position mentors team members to support skill development and knowledge retention. The role reports to a senior laboratory manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct technical inspections, develop maintenance plans, and evaluate performance of electric generators and drive systems.
- Create and implement preventive maintenance and assessment strategies for generator components, including stators, rotors, windings, insulation, controls, and instrumentation.
- Troubleshoot issues and apply engineering principles to resolve problems related to generator components and control systems; collaborate with internal teams and external experts.
- Work with design engineering teams to understand project requirements, develop engineering solutions, and ensure successful project execution.
- Direct lab personnel during project activities.
- Set up and operate testing equipment while adhering to safety standards.
- Accurately collect and analyze test data using statistical and engineering tools; provide data‑driven recommendations.
- Prepare detailed reports outlining methodologies, results, and recommendations; communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Ensure all project activities comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality systems.
- Develop and manage maintenance and assessment plans for lab test equipment.
- Create functional specifications, project requirements, test plans, design documents, and training materials.
- Mentor team members to support career development and strengthen departmental capabilities.
- Identify opportunities to improve testing methodologies, equipment, and processes.
- Comply with all organizational policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in power plant maintenance, turbine generator maintenance, and/or generator drive maintenance within industrial, utility, or energy‑related environments.
- Strong understanding of electrical generator design, maintenance, controls, protection, and instrumentation.
- 3+ years of experience conducting electrical testing and assessments of generator stators, rotors, windings, and insulation.
- Familiarity with IEEE and IEC standards related to switchgear.
- Proficiency with lab instrumentation (e.g., oscilloscopes, DMMs, high‑voltage/current measurement tools).
- Commitment to safety and proper adherence to protocols.
- Strong attention to detail in data collection and documentation.
- Ability to mentor colleagues and set departmental work/testing standards.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering field.
- Prior leadership experience.
- Knowledge of ISO‑17025 standards.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting: Frequently required for desk‑based tasks for extended periods.
- Walking: Occasionally required to walk moderate distances multiple times per day (e.g., during testing or site visits).
- Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hand‑eye coordination to operate tools, machinery, and equipment.
- Observation: Frequent close‑range observation requiring depth perception, peripheral vision, and color differentiation.
- Communication: Constant verbal communication, both in person and via phone or virtual meetings.
- Travel: Occasional travel up to 20%, including overnight trips; infrequent international travel may be required.
