Structural Engineer

My client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced P.E. Structural Engineer with a strong background in seismic retrofitting to join their one of their multiple offices in Oregon. This role involves evaluating existing structures, designing retrofit solutions, and ensuring compliance with local and national seismic codes. The ideal candidate will have a passion for improving the resilience of buildings and infrastructure in earthquake-prone regions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct structural assessments of existing buildings and infrastructure for seismic vulnerabilities.
  • Develop retrofit strategies and detailed engineering designs to improve seismic performance.
  • Prepare construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and public agencies throughout the design and construction process.
  • Perform structural analysis using software such as SAP2000, ETABS, or similar.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable codes including ASCE 41, IBC, and Oregon Structural Specialty Code.
  • Participate in field inspections and provide construction support services.
  • Stay current with seismic research, technologies, and regulatory changes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Oregon (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in structural engineering with a focus on seismic design or retrofitting.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design software.
  • Strong understanding of seismic codes and retrofit methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with public sector projects (schools, hospitals, municipal buildings) is a plus.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with performance-based seismic design.
  • Familiarity with FEMA P-807, ASCE 7, and ASCE 41 guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Oregon-specific seismic hazards and mitigation strategies.
  • LEED accreditation or sustainability-focused design experience.
