Automation Engineer

About the Role
As an Automation Engineer, you'll be instrumental in designing, programming, and supporting automation systems that enhance performance, reliability, and scalability for a wide range of industrial and municipal applications. Your work will directly influence how clients experience and benefit from automation technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, program, and troubleshoot PLC and SCADA-based control systems.
- Develop HMI/SCADA interfaces using platforms such as Ignition, Wonderware, or VTScada.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including project managers, panel fabricators, and field technicians.
- Conduct on-site commissioning, testing, and system startups.
- Optimize existing systems for improved efficiency, safety, and performance.
- Provide technical documentation and support to both clients and internal teams.
- Participate in project planning, cost estimation, and specification development.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, automation, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in automation or controls engineering.
- Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider) and SCADA/HMI development.
- Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus).
- Experience with instrumentation, process control systems, and field integration.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Willingness to travel regionally for site support and system commissioning.
- Valid driver's license required
- Travel up to 40% may be required for project execution and site visits.
Preferred Experience
- Background in water/wastewater, manufacturing, or energy sectors.
- Familiarity with UL 508A panel design and control panel fabrication.
- Strong project management and multitasking abilities.
