BESS Construction Manager

Position Overview:
A well-established electrical contractor is seeking a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Construction Manager to lead the on-site execution of utility-scale energy storage projects. This role is ideal for a construction professional with a strong background in electrical infrastructure and a proven ability to manage complex, high-voltage energy projects from mobilization through commissioning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all phases of BESS construction, ensuring compliance with NEC, OSHA, and utility interconnection standards.
- Lead and coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure timely and high-quality project delivery.
- Conduct site inspections, enforce safety protocols, and maintain a clean and compliant job site.
- Collaborate with engineering and project management teams to align construction activities with design and procurement schedules.
- Track project progress, manage RFIs, submittals, and change orders, and maintain accurate construction documentation.
- Attend and lead project planning, design, and coordination meetings.
- Support QA/QC processes and assist with system testing and commissioning.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in construction management, preferably in electrical utility, substation, or renewable energy sectors.
- Demonstrated experience with BESS or solar + storage projects is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of medium to high voltage systems and utility interconnection requirements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Primavera or similar construction management software is a plus.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Willingness to travel and work on remote project sites.
Preferred Background:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Experience managing Federal or state contracts.
- Familiarity with CPM scheduling, cost tracking, and performance evaluations.
