Boston Engineering Director
Position Overview:
We are seeking a strategic and experienced Civil Engineering Director to lead our Land Development operations in the Greater Boston area. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with deep expertise in site/civil engineering, permitting, and project delivery across residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments. The Director will oversee multidisciplinary teams, drive business growth, and ensure technical excellence in all phases of land development projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead and mentor a team of civil engineers, project managers, and technical staff.
- Develop and execute strategic plans for land development growth in the Boston market.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on business development and client engagement.
Project Oversight
- Manage complex land development projects from concept through construction.
- Oversee site design, grading, drainage, utility layout, and roadway design.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for key clients, municipalities, and regulatory agencies.
- Present at public hearings, planning boards, and zoning meetings.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with developers, architects, and contractors.
Quality & Risk Management
- Review and approve engineering plans, reports, and calculations.
- Implement QA/QC procedures and risk mitigation strategies.
- Monitor budgets, schedules, and resource allocation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Massachusetts required.
- 12+ years of progressive experience in civil/site engineering and land development.
- Proven leadership experience managing teams and large-scale projects.
- Strong knowledge of Boston-area zoning, permitting, and environmental regulations.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, HydroCAD, and GIS tools.
- Familiarity with LEED, low-impact development (LID), and sustainable design practices.
- Business development experience and existing client relationships in New England.
