Deputy Project Leader (Telecommunications)
Position Summary:
This is a developmental role focused on learning how to manage telecom-related projects. The individual will gain experience in overseeing teams, building strategic plans, managing budgets, and interpreting project data to support successful execution.
The role involves supporting the leadership of design and construction teams working on integrated technology systems-both passive and active. This includes structured cabling, networking, wireless, security systems, and other low-voltage applications. The candidate will help ensure technical accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
Core Responsibilities:
- Assist in planning and implementing telecom and low-voltage systems.
- Support daily operations of assigned project segments.
- Track and manage scope changes and associated costs.
- Monitor financial performance and maintain updated documentation.
- Coordinate project closeout activities and punch lists.
- Interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Prepare submittals and assist with estimating partially designed scopes.
- Communicate with clients, contractors, and design teams to resolve issues.
- Document decisions, RFIs, and verbal agreements in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience with a telecom integrator or electrical contractor.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Experience with telecom/security projects ranging from $500K to $10M.
- Familiarity with construction documentation and change management.
- Hands-on experience with structured cabling systems.
- Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, and project scheduling tools.
- Understanding of technical drawing production and construction workflows.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work on-site during client-defined hours and travel up to 25%.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Accubid or similar estimating software.
- Familiarity with Primavera P6 or equivalent scheduling tools.
- Willingness to travel as needed for project support.
Physical & Cognitive Requirements:
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity for keyboard and mouse use.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interpret written and spoken information accurately.
- Problem-solving and logical reasoning capabilities.
