Field Engineer - Geotechnical & Construction Materials Testing
Location: Salt Lake City, UT
A well-established engineering and testing firm is seeking a Field Engineer to support geotechnical and construction materials testing operations across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure, transportation, and development projects in the Salt Lake City region. This is a hands-on role ideal for candidates who enjoy working in the field, solving real-world engineering challenges, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform field inspections and testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and project specifications.
- Assist with geotechnical investigations including drilling oversight, logging, and sampling.
- Document field activities, prepare daily reports, and communicate findings to project engineers and clients.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and quality standards.
- Calibrate and maintain field equipment and testing tools.
- Support laboratory testing and data analysis as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience in field engineering, construction inspection, or materials testing.
- Familiarity with industry standards (ASTM, ACI, AASHTO) and testing procedures.
- Certifications such as ACI, WAQTC, NICET, or ICC are a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in outdoor environments.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
