Historic Preservationist
LVI Associates is partnering with a leading multidisciplinary firm in the San Francisco Bay Area to recruit a highly skilled Historic Preservationist. This role is ideal for a preservation professional with a strong technical background in architectural history, regulatory compliance, and cultural resource documentation. The successful candidate will support a diverse portfolio of projects involving historic buildings, districts, and landscapes across California.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct intensive-level and reconnaissance-level historic resource surveys in accordance with local, state, and federal standards.
- Prepare Historic Resource Evaluations (HREs), Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) documentation, and Section 106/110 compliance reports.
- Evaluate properties for eligibility under the California Register of Historical Resources (CRHR) and National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).
- Develop and review Historic Structure Reports (HSRs), Preservation Plans, and Conditions Assessments.
- Provide technical guidance on the application of the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
- Collaborate with environmental planners on CEQA/NEPA documentation, including Mitigated Negative Declarations (MNDs) and Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs).
- Utilize GIS and CAD tools to map and analyze historic resources and contribute to digital inventories.
- Engage with local governments, SHPO, and community stakeholders to support preservation planning and advocacy.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, Architecture, or a closely related field.
- Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience in historic preservation or cultural resource management.
- Demonstrated expertise in applying the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and evaluating historic significance under NRHP/CRHR criteria.
- Familiarity with CEQA/NEPA processes and cultural resource compliance.
- Proficiency in technical writing, archival research, and architectural description.
- Experience with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
- Knowledge of Bay Area architectural styles, development history, and local preservation ordinances is a strong plus.
