Industrial Water Permitting Project Engineer
A growing environmental consulting firm is seeking a Junior to Mid-level Project Engineer with experience in industrial water permitting and environmental compliance to join its Environmental Permitting and Compliance Group based in Chicago, IL. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of professional experience in environmental consulting, with a focus on water-related regulatory activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare construction and operating water permit applications in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Evaluate regulatory applicability and demonstrate knowledge of water quality standards and pre-treatment requirements.
Draft and submit routine and non-routine compliance reports as required by permits.
1. Support permitting and design efforts for industrial wastewater treatment systems.
Manage NPDES permitting for industrial point source and stormwater discharges.
Develop and implement SWPPP and SPCC plans, including training and documentation.
Advise clients on permitting strategies, compliance pathways, and corrective actions.
Conduct water quality sampling and inspections; provide training as needed.
Communicate effectively with clients and regulatory agencies.
Assist in proposal development and project scoping.
Qualifications:
2. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental, Chemical, or Civil Engineering.
PE licensure preferred.
3. At least five years of professional experience in environmental consulting, with a concentration in water-related permitting and treatment system design.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office 365.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
Willingness to travel occasionally and work remotely when needed.
Attention to detail and ability to manage complex regulatory documentation.
Experience with other environmental programs (air, waste, due diligence) is a plus.
Commissioning and start-up experience preferred.
Compensation & Benefits:
Salary range: $80,000-$100,000, commensurate with experience.
