Instrumentation & Controls Engineer (Water/Wastewater)
Our Client is a Internationally recognised environmental engineering firm that specialises in the planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater facilities.
They are seeking a I&C Engineer to support their team!
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to define project requirements.
- Develop scopes of work for instrumentation and control (I&C) systems, networks, and related projects.
- Lead I&C design teams for medium and large-scale projects.
- Design PLC and SCADA networks for complex systems.
- Specify industrial fiber optic networks, systems, and components.
- Create SCADA network block diagrams and develop control strategies.
- Select instrumentation and prepare ISA data sheets.
- Develop P&IDs and input/output point lists.
- Design control panel layouts and prepare detailed specifications for instruments, computers, networking equipment, PLCs, and associated components.
- Review technical submittals for compliance and accuracy.
- Prepare preliminary and final construction cost estimates for I&C systems.
- Conduct design workshops on topics such as instrument preferences, HMI graphics, and standards development.
- Design radio telemetry SCADA systems using microwave, spread spectrum, licensed MAS, cellular, or other radio technologies.
- Mentor and train junior instrumentation engineers.
- Prepare technical memorandums and reports.
- Manage the instrumentation portion of medium to large I&C projects for water and wastewater treatment facilities.
- Perform quality reviews of I&C designs and contribute to the development and refinement of master specifications.
- Develop project-specific specifications for unique instrumentation applications.
- Balance competing project demands and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Manage and delegate work to engineers and CADD technicians, ensuring quality and timely completion.
- Provide solutions for complex or unusual technical challenges.
- Participate in stakeholder interactions and support business development efforts.
- Evaluate alternatives and make timely, practical decisions.
- Communicate complex technical concepts in clear, understandable terms.
- Monitor scope, schedule, and budget to ensure alignment with project plans.
- Enforce technical standards and ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Conduct site visits during construction and operational phases as needed.
- Travel as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Instrumentation & Control, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
- 10-15 years of experience in instrumentation and control systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, and related infrastructure.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
- Expertise in:
- Industrial instrumentation and control system design.
- Instrument selection and specification.
- Industrial communication network design for water and wastewater facilities.
- Reading and developing P&IDs and control schematics.
- Strong ability to work independently on medium to large-scale projects.
- Skilled in developing scopes, budgets, and schedules at the conceptual level.
- Ability to propose innovative yet practical design approaches.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; listens and responds effectively to team and stakeholder needs.
