Mechanical Project Manager - Illinois
About the Role
This position is part of the mechanical division, responsible for overseeing HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems from concept through completion. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader with a proven ability to manage client relationships, coordinate field teams, and deliver projects on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical trade work on construction projects, acting as the primary point of contact for clients and construction managers.
- Manage project scope, schedule, and budget from pre-construction through closeout.
- Interpret P&ID drawings and translate them into construction-ready layouts and ISOs.
- Coordinate internal teams and subcontractors to ensure efficient execution.
- Maintain strong communication with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
- Oversee project financials including buyouts, billing, payments, and cost control.
- Ensure compliance with design specifications, codes, and safety standards.
- Utilize project management tools and software to track progress and documentation.
- Apply knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, process piping) throughout all project phases.
- Supervise self-performed work and direct craft labor as needed.
Qualifications
- 5 years of progressive trade experience plus 3 years in a mechanical project management role.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems and construction processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with BIM/CAD workflows and fabrication practices.
- Experience with scheduling software (MS Project, Primavera) is a plus.
- Prior experience working directly with owners as a Prime Contractor is preferred.
