Job Title: Project Manager / Estimator - Heavy Civil Construction
Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Manager/Estimator to join our team in the heavy civil construction sector. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in DOT (Department of Transportation) and heavy highway projects, with proven experience in both project management and cost estimation. This dual-role position requires a detail-oriented professional who can manage complex infrastructure projects from bid to closeout while ensuring profitability, compliance, and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimating:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy civil projects including highways, bridges, earthwork, utilities, and site development.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes.
- Develop bid strategies and participate in bid reviews and presentations.
- Maintain historical cost data and update unit pricing databases.
Project Management:
- Oversee all phases of project execution from pre-construction through closeout.
- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and work plans.
- Coordinate with DOT representatives, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Monitor project progress and adjust schedules and budgets as needed.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and contract requirements.
- Prepare and present project status reports to stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in heavy civil construction with a focus on DOT and heavy highway projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, cost control, scheduling, and project management.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, Agtek, Bluebeam) and project management tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to job sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PE license or PMP certification.
- Experience with design-build or public-private partnership (P3) projects.
- Familiarity with local DOT specifications and bidding procedures.
