Preconstruction Manager (Solar)

A well-established, privately held construction and energy solutions firm is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead preconstruction efforts within its renewable energy division. This leadership role is responsible for managing all preconstruction activities from project award through contract execution, ensuring alignment across internal teams and with client expectations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in solar/EPC construction, excellent communication skills, and a strategic mindset to help drive successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary liaison with clients during the preconstruction phase, ensuring alignment on scope, goals, and deliverables
  • Lead and mentor a team of preconstruction professionals, fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Oversee all aspects of preconstruction, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, risk assessment, and design coordination
  • Manage the preparation and submission of detailed project estimates, from conceptual budgets to final pricing
  • Provide value engineering recommendations to optimize cost, constructability, and performance
  • Support contract development and negotiations, including Limited Notices to Proceed (LNTPs)
  • Coordinate site due diligence efforts, including geotechnical studies, utility coordination, and early-stage testing
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and operations teams to ensure a seamless transition from preconstruction to execution
  • Maintain accurate and organized documentation, including RFI logs, budget trackers, and drawing logs
  • Provide regular updates to internal leadership and external stakeholders on project status, risks, and milestones

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, business, or a related field (MBA preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in solar or EPC construction, with a strong understanding of utility-scale solar project development
  • Proven leadership experience managing cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with construction and estimating software, including:
    • HCSS HeavyBid
    • Accubid
    • Primavera P6
    • MS Project
    • Bluebeam
    • AGTEK
    • InSite Software
  • Familiarity with permitting processes, contract law, and project scheduling
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing project needs
