About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Principal Surface Water Engineer to lead and deliver hydrological and hydraulic solutions for mining projects across Australia region. Based in Brisbane, you will play a key role in shaping water management strategies for open-cut and underground mining operations, ensuring environmental compliance, operational efficiency, and resilience to climate variability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead surface water engineering projects from concept through to detailed design and implementation.
  • Develop and review water balance models, flood studies, and stormwater management plans for mine sites.
  • Provide technical leadership in hydrology, hydraulics, and water resource management.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including environmental scientists, geotechnical engineers, and mine planners.
  • Engage with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to ensure project alignment with regulatory frameworks and sustainability goals.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical development within the team.
  • Support business development through proposal writing, client presentations, and strategic input.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in surface water engineering, with a strong focus on mining projects.
  • Proficiency in hydrological and hydraulic modelling software (e.g., TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, XP-RAFTS, MIKE).
  • Demonstrated experience in mine water management, flood risk assessment, and erosion/sediment control.
  • Strong understanding of Australian water regulations and mining environmental approvals.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or eligibility preferred.
