Project Engineer (Rail)
Role Overview:
Reports directly to the Project Manager or designated Deputy Project Manager.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of project documentation, including submittals, RFIs, and meeting minutes.
- Prepare logs and other documentation required for construction meetings.
- Distribute updated drawings and design changes to subcontractors.
- Draft change orders and track subcontractor pricing for review by the Project Manager.
- Coordinate with the project team to ensure timely and efficient project closeout.
- Print and perform minor updates to project schedules.
- Monitor milestone dates to ensure submittal deadlines are met.
- Work with subcontractors to obtain submittal documentation and material lead time information.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Project Manager or Deputy PM, consistent with the responsibilities of a Project Engineer on heavy civil construction projects.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the construction industry, preferably with self-performed work in heavy civil projects (e.g., bridges, highways, tunnels, and similar infrastructure).
- Self-motivated and collaborative, with a strong team-oriented mindset.
- Ability to work extended hours and maintain flexibility during peak project demands or critical operations.
- Responsive to calls, texts, and emails.
- Solid understanding of construction documentation, cost control, scheduling, and labor management.
- Proficiency with company software, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Project.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage tasks independently and meet critical deadlines.
- Comfortable leading junior engineers, field engineers, interns, and other less experienced team members.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment; resourceful and innovative.
