Senior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer
Role Overview
This position involves leading instrumentation and control (I&C) engineering efforts across medium to large-scale infrastructure projects, particularly in water and wastewater treatment. The role includes client collaboration, technical design, team leadership, and project management.
Key Duties
- Collaborate with clients and project managers to define I&C scopes and strategies
- Lead design teams and oversee development of control systems, SCADA networks, and instrumentation layouts
- Specify fiber optic and radio telemetry systems using various technologies (e.g., microwave, cellular)
- Create control diagrams, P&IDs, panel layouts, and I/O lists
- Prepare technical documentation including ISA datasheets, specifications, and cost estimates
- Review submittals and ensure compliance with standards
- Mentor junior engineers and manage design quality
- Participate in client workshops and contribute to business development
- Conduct site visits and support construction/start-up phases
- Balance competing priorities and ensure timely, high-quality deliverables
- Enforce technical standards and monitor project scope, schedule, and budget
Required Background
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or I&C Engineering
- 6-12 years of experience in control systems for industrial or municipal facilities
- Proficiency in developing control strategies, schematics, and specifications
- Licensed Professional Engineer
Preferred
- Master's degree in a related engineering discipline
