Position Title: Senior Commissioning Specialist - Mechanical & Electrical Systems
Position Type: Remote with significant travel (up to 75%)
Location Requirement: Candidate should reside near a major airport; relocation may be considered for long-term project needs.


Position Overview

A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Commissioning Specialist with deep expertise in mechanical and electrical systems, including liquid cooling, process piping, and water treatment. This role involves managing complex commissioning efforts in high-performance environments such as advanced manufacturing, technology infrastructure, or life sciences facilities.

This is a travel-intensive position, requiring frequent on-site presence at client locations across the U.S. and internationally. The successful candidate will bring strong technical leadership, hands-on commissioning experience, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.


Key Responsibilities

On-Site Commissioning & Project Leadership (50%)

  • Perform inspection, validation, functional testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  • Lead startup and factory witness testing for cooling and water treatment systems.
  • Direct contractors and vendors during commissioning activities.
  • Develop project proposals, including scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Manage site teams, coordinate resources, and maintain project timelines.
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Serve as the primary client contact on-site.

Commissioning Documentation & Planning (20%)

  • Develop commissioning plans, pre-functional checklists, and performance test scripts.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with project requirements and industry standards.

Design Review & Technical Oversight (15%)

  • Review construction documents and specifications for mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Lead design reviews with a commissioning focus to ensure operational readiness.

Reporting & Communication (15%)

  • Prepare progress updates and final commissioning reports for stakeholders.
  • Track team hours and project metrics.
  • Ensure deliverables are completed on time and within budget.

Qualifications

Technical Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, including process piping, cooling technologies, and water treatment.
  • Experience commissioning systems in critical environments such as data centers, pharmaceutical facilities, semiconductor plants, or industrial operations.

Tools & Technology

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and digital file management.
  • Familiarity with AI tools and emerging technologies to enhance workflows.

Work Style

  • Effective in remote work settings with strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Capable of working independently and within cross-functional teams.

Safety & Compliance

  • Understanding of site safety protocols and industry regulations.
  • NFPA70E and/or OSHA certification preferred.

Communication Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication, including client-facing interactions.
  • Ability to convey complex technical information clearly.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces, on ladders, and in varied environmental conditions.

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 75% travel across domestic and international locations.
  • Must meet federal travel ID requirements (e.g., REAL ID or passport).
  • Travel may include client visits, team meetings, industry events, and project-related activities.
  • Relocation may be considered for long-term assignments.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction, or a related field
    OR
    At least two years of hands-on experience with system installation, testing, and troubleshooting
    PLUS
    A minimum of eight years of relevant experience in commissioning or system operations.
