Senior Stormwater Engineer

Location: Remote (within New York State) or based in Buffalo, Ithaca, Albany, or NYC

A multidisciplinary design firm is seeking a skilled Civil Engineer with 5+ years of experience to contribute to a diverse portfolio of public and private projects. These include parks and green spaces, transportation infrastructure, university campuses, and stormwater and utility systems. The successful candidate will be involved in all phases of project development-from initial design through construction administration-working closely with architects, landscape architects, surveyors, and other professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support civil engineering design efforts, including grading and drainage, stormwater management, utility systems (sanitary sewer and water), and erosion/sediment control.
  • Prepare and oversee conceptual designs, construction drawings, specifications, design calculations, technical reports, cost estimates, SWPPPs, and stormwater modeling.
  • Deliver high-quality work on schedule and within budget.
  • Collaborate with project managers and senior staff to monitor project progress and resolve design or construction challenges.
  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers and designers, providing guidance and quality reviews.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate with external consultants and government entities to ensure compliance and smooth project execution.
  • Conduct site visits and manage construction administration tasks to ensure quality and adherence to design intent.
  • Participate in client and team meetings, contributing technical expertise and design insights.

Preferred Experience:

  • Strong background in stormwater and utility design, including stormwater management practices, conveyance systems, SWPPPs, and water/sewer infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with permitting processes and regulatory requirements across New York State, including coordination with municipal departments, regional planning boards, and state-level environmental and infrastructure agencies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Water Resources Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in civil engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification in New York State preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with AutoCAD, Civil3D, or MicroStation.
  • Knowledge of HydroCAD or similar stormwater modeling software is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Solid understanding of construction methods and construction administration.
