Senior Structural Engineer
A respected, multidisciplinary engineering consultancy in New York City is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer (PE Licensed in NY) to join their established Existing Buildings group. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives on solving complex problems in the built environment and is ready to take on a leadership position within a collaborative, technically driven team.
About the Opportunity
The firm specializes in the evaluation, repair, and restoration of existing structures across the five boroughs. The Senior Structural Engineer will play a key role in delivering high‑quality technical work while guiding a small team of engineers through all phases of investigation, design, and construction administration.
You will work on a diverse portfolio of projects, including:
Structural repair and rehabilitation of aging or damaged buildings
Structural forensic investigations, including failure analysis and cause‑and‑origin assessments
Building envelope evaluations, façade restoration, and Local Law 11/FISP‑related work
Condition assessments and due‑diligence inspections for a wide range of building types
Parking garage restoration and structural upgrades (highly preferred experience)
Key Responsibilities
Lead and mentor a small team of engineers, providing technical oversight and professional development
Conduct site investigations, structural assessments, and forensic evaluations
Develop repair and restoration design documents, calculations, and technical reports
Coordinate with architects, contractors, building owners, and other stakeholders
Oversee construction administration activities, including site visits, progress reviews, and responding to RFIs
Ensure compliance with NYC Building Code, DOB requirements, and industry best practices
Contribute to project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and quality control
Required Qualifications
Active New York State Professional Engineer (PE) License
Several years of experience working on structural repair, forensic investigation, or building envelope projects in NYC
Strong understanding of existing‑building behavior, deterioration mechanisms, and restoration methodologies
Proven experience leading or mentoring junior engineers
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and client interaction
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
