Position: Geotechnical Staff Engineer
Location: Santa Ana, CA (Onsite/in-office)
Salary: $80-100k

They are seeking a Staff Geotechnical Engineer to support both field and office operations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a balance of hands-on site work and analytical design tasks. You'll be involved in geotechnical investigations, construction observation, and engineering analysis for projects ranging from transportation and utilities to commercial and institutional developments.

Key Responsibilities:

Field Work (Approx. 40-60%):

  • Perform site reconnaissance and coordinate field exploration programs (borings, CPTs, test pits, etc.).
  • Observe and document geotechnical-related construction activities (e.g., grading, shoring, foundation installation).
  • Collect soil, rock, and groundwater samples and oversee lab testing programs.
  • Communicate with contractors and field personnel to ensure compliance with geotechnical recommendations.

Office Work (Approx. 40-60%):

  • Analyze field and lab data to develop geotechnical parameters for design.
  • Assist in preparing geotechnical reports, including foundation recommendations, slope stability, and earthwork guidelines.
  • Use software tools such as gINT, LPILE, SLIDE, and GeoStudio for analysis and documentation.
  • Collaborate with project managers, senior engineers, and clients to support project delivery.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering with a focus in Geotechnical Engineering (M.S. preferred).
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering (internships count).
  • EIT certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel locally for field assignments and work outdoors in varying conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
