Overview
A growing, multi‑disciplinary engineering and professional services firm is seeking a Structural Engineering Group Manager to lead and expand its North Carolina structural practice. This role is ideal for an experienced structural/bridge engineering leader who enjoys guiding teams, delivering complex infrastructure projects, and shaping the strategic direction of a regional practice.
The Group Manager will oversee technical delivery, staff development, client relationships, and business growth across North Carolina and the Southeast.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead and grow the North Carolina Structural Engineering Group, overseeing:
- Bridge and structural design
- Structural inspection
- Rehabilitation and preservation services
- Manage multi‑office project teams to ensure alignment of scope, budget, schedule, and staffing
- Serve as a technical and managerial leader on high‑profile transportation, municipal, and institutional projects
- Drive regional and Southeast growth initiatives for bridge and structural services
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, industry partners, and professional organizations
- Identify, pursue, and position new opportunities aligned with long‑term strategic goals
- Collaborate with regional leadership to expand market presence and service offerings
- Mentor and develop junior and mid‑level engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration
Leadership & Practice Growth
- Balance people leadership, project oversight, and client engagement
- Support business development efforts, including teaming strategies and positioning
- Help shape the future direction of the structural and bridge practice in the Carolinas and beyond
- Inspire teams through hands‑on leadership and professional mentorship
Project Exposure The group supports a diverse portfolio of work including:
- Major DOT corridor and bridge projects
- CMGC and alternative delivery projects
- Municipal infrastructure and resilience initiatives
- Higher education and institutional facilities
- Parks, recreational facilities, and multimodal improvements
- Long‑term programs for public agency clients
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
- Proven experience leading structural or bridge engineering teams
- Strong background in project management, including:
- Scope development
- Budgeting and scheduling
- Staff planning and utilization
- Quality assurance and quality control
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative leadership style
- Ability to manage and guide projects while remaining technically engaged
