Structural Project Engineer
About the Firm
This is a well-established structural engineering firm operating at a national scale, with a deep specialization in education-sector work across California. The team has extensive experience delivering K-12 and higher education projects through DSA, and rounds out its portfolio with healthcare, commercial, government, and sports and entertainment work. The culture is built around collaboration, engineer development, and delivering quality outcomes for clients. This is a firm that takes its work seriously without taking itself too seriously.
About the Role
This firm is looking for a Project Engineer to join their structural team and contribute across both the design and construction phases of building projects. You'll work closely with the Engineer of Record and broader project team, taking ownership of technical tasks while building toward greater independence and leadership over time. The project mix leans heavily toward California education work -- K-12 campuses, higher education facilities, and DSA delivery -- with additional exposure to healthcare, commercial, and government sectors. This is a strong opportunity for an engineer who wants real technical depth and a clear path forward.
Responsibilities
- Participate in coordination meetings with architects, consultants, and owner representatives across the design and construction process
- Manage design and documentation tasks to keep projects on schedule and within budget
- Author and maintain structural specifications, select materials and member sizes, and complete design calculations across a range of structural systems
- Assist with shop drawing reviews, RFIs, change proposal requests, and change orders, incorporating changes into project documents
- Communicate design and coordination items clearly to project team members and produce defensible engineering reports, memos, and correspondence
- Conduct site observations during construction administration and document findings in formal observation reports
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis or Architectural Engineering; Master's degree preferred
- Minimum 4 years of progressive structural engineering experience in building design
- Strong technical proficiency across steel, concrete, and masonry design including diaphragms, collectors, drag struts, braced frames, moment frames, rebar scheduling, and masonry connections
- Solid foundation design experience across both shallow and deep systems
- Working knowledge of IBC and applicable reference codes including ASCE, AISC, ACI, MSJC, NDS, and PTI
- Proficiency in RISA Floor, RISA 3D, or ETABS for vertical and lateral analysis; ability to verify computer models with hand calculations
- Proficiency in Revit Structure and Bluebeam Revu; comfortable with Microsoft Office suite
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
What's Offered
- Competitive base salary commensurate with experience
- Discretionary bonus potential on top of base compensation
- Full benefits package including medical and financial benefits
- Hybrid work schedule with flexibility built in
- Relocation assistance considered for the right candidate
- A firm with a deep California education portfolio and genuine investment in engineer development -- this is a place where careers are built, not just jobs filled
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
