Substation Engineer
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Substation Engineer with a background in electrical, civil, or physical design to join our growing team in the Greater Atlanta area. This hybrid role offers the flexibility to work remotely while maintaining a strong connection to field and office operations.
As a Substation Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, analysis, and support of high-voltage substation projects ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective solutions for utility and industrial clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead or support the design and engineering of high-voltage substations (greenfield and brownfield)
- Develop physical layout drawings, one-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Perform equipment selection, conduit/cable sizing, and grounding studies
- Coordinate with civil, structural, and protection/control teams to ensure integrated designs
- Conduct site visits for assessments, constructability reviews, and commissioning support
- Ensure compliance with NESC, IEEE, NEC, and utility-specific standards
- Support project managers with technical documentation, scheduling, and client communication
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in substation design or engineering
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar CAD tools
- Familiarity with ETAP, SKM, or similar analysis software is a plus
- Strong understanding of substation equipment, grounding, and protection systems
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- PE license preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months
