Substation Inspector
Overview:
 We are seeking a highly experienced and safety-focused Substation Inspector to oversee the construction and maintenance of transmission substations. This role requires a seasoned professional with a strong background in substation construction, leadership, and project oversight. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and effective communication across multiple teams and stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities:
- Daily observation and enforcement of safety practices among contract crews
- Monitor multiple contract crews on capital projects to ensure compliance and progress
- Report project status to the Construction Field Manager
- Attend project management meetings to gather scope and scheduling details
- Collaborate with Substation Design, Transmission Maintenance Centers, System Operations, Generation, Supply Chain, and Project Management
- Maintain administrative documentation including Daily Logs, Project Conditions Reports, timekeeping, expense reports, engineering reviews, final inspections, and QVA's
- Verify proper installation and accounting of materials by contractors
- Ensure accurate documentation of work authorizations and contractor time via CATEE
- Assist with scheduling and material deliveries for project success
- Participate in storm duty assignments, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight travel
- Ensure projects are completed safely with high-quality workmanship
- Monitor efficient use of resources including equipment and workforce
- Available for overtime as required
Job Requirements:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years in Substation Construction (preferred)
- Prior leadership and project oversight experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong understanding of safety guidelines, including Georgia Power and Contractor Safety Guidelines
- Familiarity with Transmission Substation Construction methods and equipment
- Comprehension of Southern Company Standards and Specifications
- Knowledge of the Georgia Integrated Transmission System Electric Operating Procedure ("Redbook")
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Strong decision-making and relationship-building abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple deadlines
- Willingness to take personal responsibility for assignments
