An opportunity has arisen for a senior technical leader to join a complex infrastructure program as a Technical Risk Lead. This role will oversee technical risk management, design governance, and delivery methodology across a major portfolio of projects.
About the Role
Reporting to the Portfolio Manager, the Technical Risk Lead is responsible for identifying and mitigating design and technical risks across both planning and execution phases. The role provides strategic input into project design, risk frameworks, and delivery plans, ensuring technical issues are addressed early and thoroughly.
The successful candidate will guide technical teams, oversee risk control integration, and work closely with stakeholders to support safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the identification, evaluation, and management of technical and design risks across all stages of the program
- Provide design oversight and ensure risk controls are embedded into planning and execution activities
- Support and mentor a team of technical consultants, driving high performance and continuous improvement
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure risk appetite, safety, and technical objectives are met
- Ensure work methodologies align with safety, environmental, and community best practices
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between delivery teams and support functions
- Engage in resource planning and capability development within the technical team
- Build strategic relationships with partners and contribute to contract compliance and customer engagement
- Encourage innovation and efficient work practices within the delivery framework
Skills & Experience
- Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
- Minimum 10 years' experience in infrastructure or similar sectors, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management capacity
- Strong background in technical risk management, planning, and project design within large or complex programs
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage competing priorities
- Skilled in strategic problem solving, stakeholder engagement, and project coordination
- Experience with portfolio/program delivery frameworks and oversight of external technical providers
